Colours Festival presents its debut outing at the stunning modernist De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill this summer.

Situated on the outdoor lawns between the shore and the grade I listed venue, the all-day festival is set to celebrate and elevate

female talent across a whole day of live music, with the Sussex coast providing the perfect setting.

About the artists

Main Stage

  • Weyes Blood will bring the transcendent folk-pop of her much celebrated fifth album ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’ to headline this year’s event. The last 12 months have seen Natalie Merin’s music celebrated across the board, with the likes of Pitchfork describing it as “majestic… an idiosyncratic set of love songs and secular hymns with lushly orchestral arrangements”. An unmissable opportunity to see an artist at the peak of their powers.

  • Welcoming The Big Moon to Colours Festival 2023. Mercury-nominated, alt-pop four-piece The Big Moon play a one-off Sussex show this summer following the release of their widely acclaimed last album – Here Is Everything. As the sun sets over the Sussex shoreline The Big Moon will be delivering their pure, uplifting songs of collective jubilance: a band in top form having the time of their lives against all the odds.

  • The widescreen sound of Katy J Pearson will also descend on Bexhill, bringing her band and her infectious blend of indie, folk and country to the Sussex coast. Katy’s 2022 release ‘Sound of the Morning’ was hailed as “an album that nails introspective songwriting just as seamlessly as it does infectious pop” by Uncut magazine and has seen her tour and play festivals across the globe.

  • Completing this initial announcement (with much more to come) is the addition of Porridge Radio, with Dana Margolin performing a special solo set of material from the band’s thrilling catalogue. Hailed by The Guardian as the “convulsing heart of the band”, this intimate set is the perfect addition to the festival’s powerful and creative bill of artists.

  • Completing the beach-side main stage line-up is Emily Barker. Emily Barker is an award-winning singer-songwriter, best known as the writer and performer of the theme to the BBC’s hugely successful crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. The perfect way to open the stage on a warm, summer’s day.

Music’s Not Dead stage

  • Heading up Music’s Not Dead’s stage at Colours Festival, Hastings’ Raw punk powerhouse HotWax are ripping up the template and ripping up stages across the UK. With NME hailing them as “Britain’s next great guitar band”, later this year they will performing with The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This could be one of the last times to see the band in such an intimate setting. Be there!

  • Brighton (by way of The Netherlands and Spain)’s indie-rock trio CIEL join the line up for Colours Festival’s on Music’s Not Dead’s Stage. Recently A-listed on BBC, CIEL’s music possesses a fresh, dark, and hauntingly beautiful quality. Combining elements of fuzzy indie rock, goth, and shoegaze, the band's broody and gritty sound is elevated by the soft, icy, but emotive melodies of singer Michelle Hindriks.

  • We promised to bring you the best artists from the South Coast, and opening the Music’s Not Dead stage at Colours Festival is Hastings’ own hidden gem, Bellza. Breaking through the acclaimed powerful rock scene comes Bellza’s whisper of quiet acoustic folk music that introspects into a universe of psychedelia and existentialism, drawing influence from alternative indie greats such as Elliott Smith, The Flaming Lips, and Sufjan Stevens.

  • Our dear friends at Resident in Brighton will be taking to the decks as Resident DJs to guide you through the day and into the evening, and completing the Main Stage for our 1st edition.
